Avoid: =birth to 4 months= avoid honey until over 1 year of age avoid water supplementation avoid semi-solid food until age 4-6 months -infants do not accept semi-solid food -tongues protrude when spoon in mouth -unable to transfer food to back of mouth -risk of choking.

Yes: I would question why so soon.In previous years when homemade formula from cow milk was routine, early feeding was necessary to improve nutrition. Now we understand breast or formula alone is fine & allows baby to develop motor skills that improve their transition to solids.I like to start @ 6m & making your own is a great way to avoid some of the additives & preservatives in commercial products.

A little early: Physical readiness to feed occurs @4-6 mos, when baby has doubled her birth weight & takes >32 oz./day of formula or nurses > 8-10x/day. Developmentally, she needs to be able to sit in a high chair, have enough upper body strength to lean forward when hungry & turn away when full, & be able to transfer a scant 1/2 tsp. Of a pureed food from the spoon to her throat. Till then, it's not gonna work.
