What kinds of contraceptives are ok for someone with melasma (darkening of the skin)?

Non hormonal: Melasma is a skin piment change caused primarily by hormone containing contraceptives and pregnancy, so you may want to choose a method that doesn't contain any hormones. Plenty are availble so discuss with your doctor.

Less: Best to minimize exposure to hormones. Copper iud would be a great choice. Nuva ring is also something to consider though. It uses the same hormones as the pill, but a lot less and is less likely to make your melasma worse.
