A simple procedure..: 1) The vagina and cervix are cleaned with betadine or other cleanser. 2) The Cervix is grasped and some tension is put on the cervix. This causes the uterus to straighten out. 3) The uterus is sounded to determine how many centimeters it is from the cervical opening to the top of the uterus. 4) The IUD is inserted and the arms of the IUD are deployed. 5) The string is cut at about 2cm.
