Common: Pain is never a normal condition. Pain after a laminectomy is very common. It will take at least a year for healing.

Possibly: Depends on how long ago you had surgery. It may take a while for the muscles and surgical site to heal. Also, back surgery doesn't guarantee that you will no longer have back pain. A laminectomy removes bone in your spine to decompress nerves. You may be experiencing pain from the joints in your spine.

Post-op pain: Zulma1 - back pain in the acute post-op period is expected and usually decreases as you begin to recover. There are different ways to surgically perform a laminectomy and each have their own degree of pain post-operatively usually located at the site of the incision and oftentimes along the back muscles that were irritated during the operation.
