When will a newborn finger nails seperate from its skin?

???separate??: I've done this stuff for a while & never heard of a newborns nails separating from the skin. They are often deep to the surrounding skin at birth due to late term fluid retention and appear more at skin level within the first week. The only thing i know that causes separation of the nail from its bed is trauma.
