Hirsutism of PCOS: Excess facial hair (hirsutism) in female is often caused by androgen (male-hormone) excess, commonly from polycystic-ovarian-syndrome (pcos). Adequate treatment of pcos, which is difficult, often improves facial hair, but takes time. Some med such as spironolactone can help, but again takes many months. Laser or electrolysis are probably most effective and fastest. Consult doc for eval. Good luck.

Maybe Dx; can Rx: All the answers so far have been good. Quite a few women who have a marked tendency to hirsutism have mild alleles of congenital adrenal hyperplasia -- shunting molecules that should have gone to make cortisol toward man-type hormones instead. Just how much effort it's worth to make this diagnosis (unlike pcos) s unclear; hairs can be removed with electrolysis.
