Do not need removal: A plantar calcaneal spur very seldon need to be removed and only on very special circustances. The heel spur is not the source of the heel pain, the source of the heel pain is due to plantar fasciitis and in rare occasion due to entrapment of a very small nerve(called the nerve of the abdq).Conservative measures work very well the majority of the time.

Oftentimes: The spur itself is not the cause of pain but the plantar fascial structure or sibyl an entrapped nerve. What conservatvive therapy have you tried? When cons therapy is exhausted surgery is definately an option. I just find it to be more rare than common.
