They may be dry: If you are a new to breastfeeding your nipples may become raw and irritated until they "toughen up" during the process. Lanolin or your own milk can help ease the transition.

Not normal.: While we'd need more information to hazard a guess as to what's specifically going on, the nipples shouldn't generally be burning.
