Calcium, iron beware: The two substances that most commonly cause decreased stomach absorption of thyroid hormone are calcium and iron. We usually recommend that any vitamins, supplements and medicines (e.g. Antacids) that contain calcium and/or iron be taken at least 3-4 hours separated from thyroid pills. Otherwise, the thyroid levels that are absorbed into the body may vary each day.
