Defense Mechanism : Without knowing more about this individual, i can only offer one of many possible explanations as to why one would create a complete identity to gain attention. Defense mechanism. An insecure person might create an alternative identity to mask or hide their insecurities from others. This new persona might be able to accomplish what the insecure individual could not.
