Could be: Many things from the simple like sleeping with your mouth open to the more complex like side effects of drugs you may be taking or the amount of alcohol ingested the previous night(alcohol metabolism takes water out of your system). If it is only in the morning and you are'normal' during the rest of the day i would not worry.

Possibly medication: Many types of medication can cause a person to develop dry mouth. So you should check it out. In addition some people are mouth breathers which can cause dry mouth and inflamed gums.
