A member asked:

Gangrene is not contagious but in a venous gangrene on leg, is the fluid coming out of it contagious?

Use precautions: The fluid coming out of any area of gangrene has some nasty bacteria in it which is why it smells so bad. If you get bacteria on normal skin, you are unlikely to get infected but if you have any breaks in the skin you could. Why take the chance? It's best to use gloves when dealing with such fluid. If some gets on you, don't panic but do wash with soap and water!
