See below: There a a few possible reasons. Sometimes when there is a pinched nerve in the neck, a cough or sneeze can result in more pressure on the nerve and a sudden pain. Other times if the cough is strong enough it can activate muscles around a painful joint and cause pain. I would see a doctor to get checked out.
