Multiple etiologies: There are multiple etiologies for this problem that depends on your age and gender and your presentation. It is not normal for a 31 year old person to not fully empty the bladder, so further work up will be required. The first thing that should be done is to make sure that you have normal kidney function and that there is no evidence of infection.
