Hormone actions: The "endocrine system" is actually a series of systems each of which works through feedback loops to coordinate the function of a variety of different hormones, glands, or organs. The term "endocrine" means that the effects are mediated through hormones that work at a site that is remote from where they are produced. This is different from "paracrine" systems that work on adjacent organs.
