Very painful: A dislocated shoulder is unable to move normally. If you can do normal range of motion, then it may not be dislocated, just painful for any number of reasons. Dislocation requires medical attention to fix.

Shoulder dislocation: It can be very painful when the shoulder is out , the muscles and nerves are stretched . When it is reduced the pain is drastically reduced.
