No : If the herpes lesions are just oral the baby will not be exposed at childbirth, but the mother must use caution with the child after birth not to transmit the virus.

Labels vs reality: HSV1 was once considered only oral (cold sore) related, but we know it can show up in genital lesions. It tends to be location specific, so someone with oral lesions would not get genital lesions & subject their baby to any risk. Those with GENITAL lesions that appear around delivery of a 1st pregnancy have the most risk of transferring it through contact. Less risk for recurrent outbreaks
