Quite normal: Babies go through many periods of drooling with variable mucous excess & their airway is protected as they swallow by a sensitive mechanism. The choking reflects that protection & may be seen at any point. Sometimes a bunch of spit will roll back as the breathe & the two can't be done at the same time. It happens occasionally to most adults on a much less frequent basis.

Teething: It sounds like your daughter is teething, which is normal. Teething is the eruption of the primary (baby) teeth into the mouth and the teeth breaking through the gums can be painful and symptoms could include crying, irritability, excess saliva. Make sure you keep the saliva build-up minimized so they don't choke.

Evaluation: Your daughter probably was not being held at an angle of 30 degrees or more during the episode. Drooling is normal but other causes may be ruled out during your next well visit. If the choking causes respiratory symptoms, please see your pediatrician right away. Sometimes there are lesions which babies are born with in the upper airway which can lead to drooling.
