Surgery: He would need to have a curative surgical resection for the gist. With a small mass- many times surgery can be done endoscopically. Gist - gastrointestinal stromal tumor is a cancer of the muscle /purkinje cell. As a cancer, it can grow and it can spread/ metastasize to other area. It is important to ask your doctor why? And if you need to, getting a second opinion is not a bad thing to have.
