What does emt mean by "agonal breathing" in a 92 yo person?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

See below: There is chest rise and fall but barely any air is going into the lungs and being exchanged in the blood. Basically, there's inadequate gas exchange - so it's like the person is barely breathing out of agony (morbid i know).
