A nerve problem?: Pins and needles sensations are called paresthesias, and may be due to a nerve being irritated. A neurologist, an ENT surgeon, or a facial plastic surgeon can evaluate to see if the area involved is serviced by one particular nerve. These doctors know where the facial nerves travel, and may be able to tell if somewhere along the path there is compression by bone, muscle, scar tissue, etc...
