Occipital nerve: Most likely explanation for your symptoms is irritation of occipital nerve, a strictly sensory nerve supplying the scalp in back of the head. This nerve is frequently irritated by chronic muscle spasm secondary to emotional tension and/or anatomic difficulties in the upper neck.
