Does lupos run in families?

Yes: Yes, the genes for lupus do run in families. However, not everyone who inherits the genes develops the disease. What causes the disease to develop is still a mystery. Many causes have been implicated but we do not have the definitive answer yet.

Rheumatologic issues: The specific diagnosis of lupus wouldn't run in families as much as the tendency towards rheumatologic conditions in general - that tendency runs in families - lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Sjögren's syndrome, scleroderma. Can find all of these in family lineages.
