Depends: It depends on the nature of the burn, its depth and location. Most burns can be treated with aloe vera gel application. Hydrocortisone may be helpful in first degree burns. Second degree burns will need to have the blisters opened sterily and treated with antimicrobial ointments and/or oral antibiotics. Third/fourth degree require certain surgical procedures and grafting.

Activities such as smoking will reduce blood flow to all the tissues, impairing healing significantly. Ointments containing aloe not only keep the burn lubricated, but can also reduce the pain.
