Can teeth whiteners be harmful?

Possibly: Whitening toothpastes, strips, trays and laser bleaching can cause tooth sensitivity if not used correctly. Whitening is safe if the directions are followed. Not all stains can be lightened. You dentist can help determine if you are a good candidate. Some people develop sensitive teeth after whitening procedures. However, the discomfort usually disappears once the product is discontinued.

Some: Yes teeth whiteners can remove enamel and other things that help protect your teeth. If you use the whitening products as directed and brush regularly with fluoridated toothpaste, you should be fine and the harm is very minimal. If you have questions, please contact your dentist.

Teeth whitening: Teeth whitening is safe when using whitening materials dispensed by your dentist. It is often considered the safest and most conservative of all cosmetic dental procedures. The most common side effect is temporary tooth sensitivity which will stop 1-3 days after completing the whitening process. However, otc whitening gels may have ingredients that could alter the enamel and should be avoided.
