See answer...: This product can cause sedation which can result in a decreased respiratory drive. This will ultimately result in an increased carbon dioxide level and perhaps even a decreased oxygen level resulting in acute respiratory failure, sometimes requiring mechanical ventilation. It is best to avoid this med if you have chronic bronchitis, a form of copd. If you smoke, you need to quit asap.
