Many possibilities: Some possible causes for back pain include: bulging, herniated or extruded disks; arthritis, osteoporosis, injury & scoliosis (severe). This does not include back pain which is part of a constellation of other symptoms. The best way to determine the cause of your pain is evaluation by your physician.
