What causes milk allergy in toddlers?

?true milk allergy ?: True milk allergy is uncommon and can develop over time for unknown reasons. Hives, facial swelling & frothy loose stools can be signs. Milk intolerance is relatively common. Kids can lose the gut enzyme needed to digest the milk sugar after diarrhea or naturally & end up with gassy loose stools. The transient form resolves over time.

Antibodies to milk: Milk allergy is an adverse immune response to a certain protein in cow's milk. Allergic responses include dermatitis, gastrointestinal and respiratory distress, including such life-threatening anaphylactic responses. Milk allergy is the most common food allergy in early childhood, affecting 2-3% of infants. Consultation with a board-certified allergist is recommended.
