A bad term: This is a misleading term. It used to be used for individuals who had a different form of arthritis from rheumatoid. However, simple absence of rheumatoid factor (the determinate of seronegativity) does not rule out the diagnosis, nor does the presence of rheumatoid factor confirm the diagnosis.
