Rest, hygeine, meds: Stress is by far the most common cause of moutth ulcer like cold sore or canker sore. Most ulcers are self limiting condictions and normally heal by themselves rest and stress control will help the healing process. Oral hygeine is very important for prevention of secondary infection. Certain medicatons can speed the healing but not too much.

Get Diagnosis: See the Dentist to determine if it is aphthous ulcer or herpes ulcer -- different treatments. Both respond to warm salt water rinses,and generally take 10 -14 days to resolve. Aphthous are on the tissue that is loose and moves--cheek,floor of mouth, inside lip. Herpes is on the firm tissue - roof of mouth, gums around the teeth, lips and outside.Herpes very contagious ! Acyclovir drugs for herpes.

Canker sores: is the most common oral lesions. Most ulcers, infections will clear up by themselves within a week or two. You should see your GP or dentist if the ulcer gets worse or lasts for longer than 2 weeks.

Mouth ulcer: Mouth ulcers are caused by viruses. These ulcers can really be painful. Palliative relief can be obtained by placing some orajel (a topical anesthetic) on the affected tissue. Follow a bland diet for a few days as well as rinse your mouth with salt water.
