What does macular degeneration with a hemorrhage really mean?

4 doctors weighed in across 3 answers

Wet form.: Macular degeneration with a hemorrage usually signifies new blood vessels growing from the choroid - a blood rich supporting layer of the retina. This is most frequently seen with the wet form and can often be treated with intraocular injectable medications such as Avastin or lucentis (ranibizumab).

Treatment needed: If the hemorrhage is from the macular degeneration, then by definition you have the wet/exudative form and thus need treatment with an intravitreal injection of an anti-vegf medicine by a retina specialist.
