Often: People with autistic spectrum problems have difficulties taking in cues from their environment, interpreting this information, and then responding in a way that is "on target" for the situation. In addition, there is often a lack of emotional response, or an inappropriate emotional response, to the environment. This can lead to an outward appearance of unusual emotional responses.
