You should see : A podiatrist. 8 months is way too long to go in pain and apparently, it will not get better on its own. A podiatrist will perform a history and physical and possibly take x-rays. The problem may even lie in your back and not even be coming from your toe but you did not supply enough information to make any real differential diagnosis.

Rule out arthritis: Persistent pain in any joint must be checked for arthritis. An x-ray would be the first step in diagnosis.
