White spots: Look for white spots on your tonsils. These can be present even if you don't have a sore throat and may represent curd-like debris (tonsil stones) that gets caught in the tiny crypts of your tonsils. Bad breath and chronic low-grade soreness can also be caused by the this debris. You can gently touch your tonsils with a long q-tip: sometimes debris will come out.

Can you remove them?: Get a penlight and a mirror and half-unbend a paper clip. Poke around and see if you can dislodge one. Don't hurt yourself. Or try a water pick. They're firm and smell nasty. You'll get good at it. They'll grow back after a while. If it's truly a nuisance, a otolaryngologist can laser-resurface your tonsils.
