Canker Sores: The exact cause of most canker sores is unknown. Stress or tissue injury is thought to be the cause of simple canker sores. Certain foods -- including citrus or acidic fruits and vegetables (such as lemons, oranges, pineapples, apples, figs, tomatoes, and strawberries) - can trigger a canker sore or make the problem worse. It usually resolves in a week or 2 but minimizing irritation can help.

Oral hygeine: Canker sore is self-limiting condition. It will heal in 7-10 days if it is not infected secondarily. Keeping the area clean via thorough oral hygeine is by far the most useful remedy. Avoid spicy food, rinse after each meal, and apply topical anesthetics if pain is severe. If the lesion is not healed in 2 weeks, you need see a dentist for evaluation or biopsy.
