What does a doctor do during a contact lens fitting?

Lots!: Measures refraction and detects astigmatism. Measures corneal curvature for lens base curve and checks for dry eye or other eye conditions which would render contact lens use difficult.

Contacts: For a first-time contact lens wearer, the doctor must make sure the lens fits properly, by taking into account the prescription of the lens and the corneal curvature. The doctor also takes into consideration your vision needs and whether you have dry eye. The doctor will teach you proper insertion and removal techniques for the lenses, and how to care for the lenses when they are removed.
