Menarch/Growth Hormo: During the couple yrs preceding menarche there is a growth spurt of 2-3 inches. This is because of the hormone changes of puberty. The spurt in growth preceding menarche results from the secretion of growth hormone that is produced by the pituitary gland, and an androgen hormone secreted by the adrenal glands. Growth hormone injections should not delay menses.
