Damage: A sprain is soft tissue damage and will heal on its own. A broken finger is hard tissue damage(the bone) is fractured/broken, tissue may appear bruised and very swollen. This requires a hard splint/cast to immobilize the bone so that it may heal correctly. An xray will tell the story so see your md.
