A member asked:

Can someone explain the reason why convulsion happens when blood glucose level is so low?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Low Brain Bloodsugar: Glucose is the main source of fuel for the brain (with the exception of ketones). When blood sugar drops, the brain is deprived of its essential fuel. Ketones can't form when the cause is related to high Insulin levels or other metabolic diseases. Deprived of fuel, the cells of the brain can't function properly: "feeling low", behavior changes, loss of consciousness & seizure in extreme cases.
