Hallux limitus: Patients with an unstable 1st metatarsal will experience jamming of the joint when trying to propel and will often develop pain in that joint. The compensation for this is to use your calf muscle to propel instead of your big toe. Therefore, we often see that symptoms together.. A visit to a podiatrist will be definitive for diagnosis.
