Prenatal vitamins: Take a prenatal vitamin with at least 800 micrograms (mcg) of folic acid, or a prescription one with 1 milligram (mg) of folic acid. Talk to your OB dr if taking anti-seizure medications or a family or personal history of birth defects; you may need 4-5 mg of folic acid. Avoid excess alcohol, any smoking, marijuana, other drugs, and review any prescription meds with your doctors. Get a flu shot.
