Yes: It is important to ensure you're treating otitis externa (swimmer's ear) and not something else, as treatment of ear pain varies depending on the cause. Also, formal medical treatment is much more effective. With that said, rubbing alcohol, strong grain alcohol (e g bacardi 151), and/or white vinegar used as ear drops may help clear and prevent swimmer's ear. Would recommend to see a doctor....
