Yes: Todays anesthesia methods are more than adequate to handl eyour condition. Remember to tell everyone about your asthma and especially remember to bring your medications with you.

No: It is advisable to seek medical attention when experiencing even mild symptoms of shortness of breath or wheezing (asthma), prior to having elective surgery with general anesthesia.

Yes, but.: Most cases of mild asthma can be treated by the use of inhalers. Your anesthesiologist will want to discuss your case and your normal management. I ensure that my patients have had a dose of their inhalers prior to anesthesia. Should the asthma return during the case there are medications we can use to treat this. Good luck.
