Many. Causes: There are many causes of high cholesterol- in fact in most folks it is a combination of genetics and lifestyle . Some are born with very high or low cholesterol and some more or less sensitive to the impact of diet , exercise or weight on cholesterol. Finally other diseases , medications and other things can impact cholesterol.

Genetics: Poor diet and lack of exercise. You cannot do much about the genetics but a healthy diet, exercise and if indicated a statin or other medications will help.
