No: We haven't actually had a bird flu epidemic recently. There have been sporadic cases around the world. Epidemic influenza is a regular global occurrence, but the strains in circulation for the last few years have not come from the avian flu virus that got so much press attention. Get a yearly flu-shot. Wash your hands a lot, and that is your best defense against all forms of influenza.
