Calories: Metabolism represents ow much energy you burn ( calories)... The ore calories you burn in excess of your intake manifests itself as weight loss. A higher metabolism means greater weight loss. The best thing is too increase it so even when not exercising our are burning more calories. This is referred to as basal metabolic rate if you choose to look it up. Increasing muscle mass seems to help.

Metabolism: Rapid metabolism means that calories are being more quickly. A person with a high metabolism may be apt to lose weight more quickly then a similar person with a slow metabolism. But be aware that if one drastically cuts down on their caloric intake that their metabolic rate may slow down.
