Swelling unrelated : The swelling in your legs is unlikely to be related to your back pain unless your back pain is related to a vascular problem. Exercise is benificial for back pain due to structural back issues like disc problems . There are several other reasons that could involve the ankles in terms of swelling and you can check this out with your doctor to make sure it is not vein related or heart related
