Need ortho exam: I would suggest an exam to come up with a more precise diagnosis you may have a minor problem such as tendonitis or you may have a problem with an internal derangement such as a meniscal injury the only way to know for sure would be to get an exam and a possible MRI of the knee.

Knee pain: You are describing the lateral aspect of your knee. This mas be lateral meniscal tear, synovitis, lcl sprain, among others. Check with an orthopedic surgeon.

SEE ORTHOPEDIST: Outer knee: common causes include arthritis, knee-cap problems, lateral meniscal tear, itb syndrome, bursitis, lateral ligament complex injury, loose bodies, fracture and bone bruise. Rarely, popliteus tendinitis and peroneal nerve can cause lateral sided symptoms. Remember, the low back can also refer pain.
