Chronic constipation: Think about your colon! it has to move that heavy load of old stool. A bowel regimen is indicated. The goal is two soft bowel movements daily. Water and juices up to 1.5 liters daily, fiber tablets, laxatives (milk of magnesium or miralax), stool softeners, probiotics, and walking are all non-prescription things you can use for your bowel regimen. If you have fever or vomiting, get evaluated.

Constipation : Constipation can be life threatening as the stool can erode through the wall of the colon if it stays there long enough. See your primary doctor first, them you may need a referral to a GI doctor or colorectal surgeon. In the mean time, drink plenty of fluids and consider increasing the fiber in your diet. Just be aware that increasing fiber without drinking enough fluid can make it worse.
