Some are: Certain forms of infectious colitis can be directly transmitted from person-to-person due a low number of organisms needed to produce infection (shigellosis, e. Coli o157). Some are more likely to be transmitted from one to another through a vehicle in which the bacteria can grow to higher concentrations (salmonellosis, campylobacteriosis). Some are not transmissible like ulcerative colitis.

No: Day to day colitis you encounter like diet related colitis , ulcerative colitis ( uc ) is not contagious not due to infections. Infection related pseudumembranous colitis caused by clostridium difficile is also not contagious . Amoebic colitis is , but not seen in western world
